Story Planning: How to Develop a Great MG or YA Novel

I have exciting news! I'll be giving a workshop on Story Planning: How to Develop a Great Middle Grade or Young Adult Novel, in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Friday, March 18, 2016.

Every year, SCBWI–Hawaii hosts a two-day conference for children's book writers.

I grew up on Oahu and love having the chance to return to my childhood home and eat my mother's homemade Korean food.

Also presenting are

  • Dan Santat, Caldecott Medal–winning author and illustrator;
  • Suzie Townsend, a literary agent with New Leaf Literary (she sold The Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard, a bestselling YA novel, and works for the same agency that sold Veronica Roth's Divergent—heard of that one yet?); and
  • Kirsten Carlson, a very talented author-illustrator of children's books.

On Saturday, March 19th, I'll be participating in a First Pages Panel, a fun event that's like Dancing with the Stars but for writers. We'll be looking at first pages and sharing our reactions. Don't miss this.

Suzie Townsend and I will also be offering one-on-one manuscript critiques (first five pages + a synopsis).
